From February 06-10 I will be working with Eric Cordier at “La Génerale” in the 14th district of Paris. Looking forward to immersing myself into the electronic landscapes we’ll discover together.

The result of my first collaboration with the people running Phonogram Unit–José Lencastre, saxophone, Hernâni Faustino, double bass and Vasco Furtado, drums and percussion–is coming up on BandCamp as well as all music streaming websites on January 22, 2023.

I play the OpenTheremin with the Make Noise 0-Coast as it’s voice as well as the SOMA PIPE. The day before the gig I realised that Hamburg Airport security had misplaced the contact microphone so I had to use a dynamic mic instead, but everything worked out.

Looking back at the last few years I feel very fortunate to have been able to collaborate with a great many wonderful artists. Many thanks for the opportunities, energy and creative impulses!

I am very happy to once again be one of the recipients of the “Neustart Kultur” (STIP-III) grant of the culture ministry of the German government and Musikfonds for my project “in-ORGAN-ic”. I’ll be exploring possibilities for spatialisation and manipulation of sounds from within church organs as well as their integration with my setup consisting of Theremin + modular synth and Haken Audio Continuum Fingerboard.

After the tour with the improvising string quartet / Quatuor BRAC and the light artist Katrin Bethge, the premiere of which took place in April at Palais Walderdorff Andrew returns to Trier on October 29 (at 18:30 CET) for the final concert of his Musikfonds-grant studying the interaction of electronics and organ at the Marienstiftskirche Pfalzel.

Andrew Levine will be playing Theremin+Synthesizer, Continuum and The PIPE from SOMA together with Benedikt Simon (percussion / organ), Benedikt Hansjosten (cello) and Axel Simon (organ). The free improvised music will be accompanied by realtime projections.

Friends of rare and (likely 😉 previously unheard sounds will enjoy the meeting of the Theremin with “The PIPE” by SOMA Laboratory. “The PIPE” was premiered in 2019, the centennial of the ancestor of all electronic instruments. Let us take you on this wild ride…

Ever wonder what four Crackleboxes played simultaneously would sound like? I did 😉

The first recording session with Thomas Noll and myself took place in a modern church in Berlin. I performed on the Haken Audio Continuum Fingerboard and the Landscape Audio Stereo Field, deciding not to use any aleatoric fills of a dedicated modular setup. The Cracklebox did have a small appearance though.

Session number two featured the duo Benedict Hansjosten (Cello) and Benedict Simon (Organ). My quadruple-setup consisted of the Moog Claravox plus modular voice, the Continuum and the STEIM Cracklebox.

For session three I traveled to Denstedt by Weimar. My musical partners were Michael von Hintzenstern and Jakob Dietz. This was the first time the fully mechanical Liszt-organ joined forces with a Theremin 🙂 After a duo with Cracklebox and organ I also explored the synchronous combination of Continuum and Stereo Field for the first time. They are perfect partners.

On Friday, September 2nd, I performed in public together with Thomas Noll as part of the Organo Vino festival. We had a good sized and enthusiastic crowd at the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche in Berlin Schöneberg. More concerts to come in this configuration for sure!
