Auftritt: vier MusikerInnen. Violine, Bratsche, Cello – und Kontrabass! Der erste Hinweis darauf, dass etwas ungewöhnliches bevorsteht. Ein fünfter Musiker bezieht Stellung etwas zurückgesetzt, in der Mitte des Halbkreises, hinter einer hölzernen Kiste mit einer geraden Messing-Antenne links und einem Messing-Reif rechts. Linker Hand eine Art Keyboard, mit roten und schwarzen Streifen. Zu seiner Rechten eine längliche Box, aus der allerlei Kabel wuchern. Dann tritt die Lichtkünstlerin an ihren Overheadprojektor.
Dunkelheit…
Ist schon etwas zu hören? Ganz leise… Ist etwas zu sehen? Lichtstreifen tauchen auf und verschwinden, einzelne Streicher-Klänge lösen sich aus dem Rauschen, verdichten sich, verweben sich zu einem Teppich – aus dem eine Stimme wie die einer Piccolo-Flöte emporsteigt,… die Wände scheint jetzt Öl hinabzulaufen, goldene Streifen bilden Pfützen, Klangflächen brechen auf, der Kontrabass grummelt in der Tiefe. Aus Linien werden Pizzicati, lassen den Raum hörbar werden mit seinen Wänden und der Decke, auf denen jetzt Lichtpunkte tanzen.
Die Musik von BRAC erinnert manchmal an Pärt, Shostakovich oder Ligeti, während Theremin, Synthesizer und Continuum dem Ganzen eine Qualität außerhalb des gewohnten Klangraumes hinzufügen. Das Ergebnis ist eine bei jedem Konzert einzigartige, komplexe Komposition in Echtzeit. Das Publikum ist Zeuge des Entstehens, der Entwicklung und dem Vergehen eines Soundtracks von inneren Bildern, die sich nahtlos mit den Projektionen zusammenfügen – oder Kontraste zwischen Auge und Ohr offenbaren.
Bei Konzerten in Trier, Hamburg und Hannover ist im April 2022 erstmals diese Kombination von Streichquartett, Elektronik und Lichtkunst live zu erleben. Keine Aufnahme ist mit der Unmittelbarkeit der direkten Erfahrung zu vergleichen. Wir hoffen darauf diese Entdeckungsreise in Kürze zusammen mit einem aufgeschlossen Publikum zu unternehmen. Es wird mit Sicherheit ein unvergessliches Ereignis!

Enter: four musicians. Violin, viola, cello – and double bass! The first indication that something unusual is about to happen. A fifth musician stands in back, in the center of the semicircle, behind a wooden box with a straight brass antenna on the left and a brass ring on the right. On the left hand some kind of keyboard, with red and black stripes. To his right a long box sprouting all sorts of cables. Then the light artist approaches her overhead projector.
Darkness…
Can you hear anything? It’s really quiet… Can you see something? Stripes of light appear and disappear, individual string sounds emerge from a hiss in the background, intensify, weave into a carpet – from which a voice rises like that of a piccolo flute… oil now seems to be running down the walls, golden stripes form puddles, the sound surface breaks up, the double bass rumbles in the depths. Lines become pizzicati, making the room audible with its walls and ceiling, on which dots of light now dance.
BRAC’s music is sometimes reminiscent of Pärt, Shostakovich or Ligeti, while theremin, synthesizer and continuum add a quality outside of the not completely alien sonic space. The result is a complex, real-time composition that is unique at every concert. The audience witnesses the emergence, development and fading of a soundtrack of inner images that merge seamlessly with the projections – or reveal contrasts between eye and ear.
The novel combination of string quartet, electronics and the light art can be experienced live for the first time in April 2022 at concerts in Trier, Hamburg and Hanover. No recording compares to the immediacy of direct experience. We hope to embark on this voyage of discovery shortly with an open-minded audience. It will definitely be an unforgettable event!
